The Kirk & Kirk wearer is independent, creative and always fascinating. We are delighted to introduce you to some incredible people and share their unique view on the world.
In a recent photo shoot, we met our models through WIMP, a model agency for Trans+ talent. As well as being an amazing model, Iro is a dancer and tattoo artist and we had to find out more.
Jason: Your tattoos are unique. Are they very personal or can you share your inspiration?
Iro: For me, I see tattoos as a way for us to reclaim ourselves a little bit from a world which constantly seeks to police, control and demonise queer bodies. As a tattoo artist myself, I combine my experience as a dancer into how I approach marking another person’s body. I pay attention to the contours, the scars or freckles, the directional energies and channel them into new inky forms.
Jason: What does dance mean to you?
Iro: Dance can be so much more than just prancing around on a stage. Dance permeates every aspect of my life; it is the tool with which I make sense of the world and the lens through which I see it.
Jason: One to look out for…
Iro: One to watch out for… I’d keep my eyes on an organisation called We Exist, they are a collective of trans* artists (which I am also part of) making some amazing work across a range of artistic practices. And of course, WIMP Agency are doing some incredible things!”
